The Building Knowledge for Library Advocacy Project is a strategically appropriate and timely piece of work that demonstrates the economic benefits of public libraries to the community. It will sit alongside the Libraries Building Communities reports, providing another and a fresh perspective on the value of public libraries.
1. Project objectives
- To expand the understanding among funding decision-makers of the value of public libraries to the community and justify continued and increased investment
- To prove that public libraries contribute economic benefit to the community
- To provide public library managers with new tools for assessing the performance of their services
- To up-skill public library managers in the area of advocacy
2. Key Deliverables
- A comprehensive, authoritative and well-packaged statewide report on the economic benefits to the community of Victorian public libraries.
- A methodology for measuring the economic benefits of public libraries that can be used at the local level by individual library services.
- A communication strategy to ensure that the key messages of the statewide report are clearly and powerfully articulated to decision-makers concerned with the funding of public libraries.
- A suite of high-quality promotional materials linked to the statewide report that public library managers and other champions can use when advocating for public library services to key stakeholders.
- An education program for public library managers to ensure that they fully comprehend the statewide report and are equipped to deliver its key messages effectively.
- A summit to coincide with the launch of the statewide report that will serve as a vehicle to promote key findings to a wide range of stakeholders including decision-makers concerned with funding public libraries.
